Choose Group Fitness

For the most part, people are social creatures. We start as children playing with schoolmates during and after school, as teenagers, we constantly were seeking out friends, and even as adults we often look for social interactions with our friends, coworkers, and neighbors. As adults, we have many obligations to work, family and other organizations that it can be difficult to find time to “hang-out” with your friends. Group exercise classes allow you to have time to feel young again and “play” with your friends. There are many ways that group exercises classes can help you get moving and stay moving. Here are three reasons why you should join a group fitness class.

Group Camaraderie. Group exercise classes are a great way to meet people who have similar interests and hobbies. LionHeart offers group classes with a certified coach who is prepared to work with a wide range of adaptive situations. You will have the opportunity to be surrounded by people who are living an adaptive lifestyle and looking to improve their quality of life. It is a great environment to build each other up and provide support for others in a similar situation. And if you are new to exercise classes you will quickly learn that there is nothing quite like physical activity and misery that brings people together.

Finally, we’ve become dependent on social media and texting for our social interactions, working out with a group offers actual human interaction. Group fitness forces you to be present and part of the group. You can try to escape to the back of the pack, but a good instructor will integrate you into the group whether you like or not. That’s why it’s called group dynamics, and that’s why technology will never replace the good ‘ol fashioned group workout. Get out of your cubicle, your car or your house and go meet other people that have a common interest just like you. You never know, you might just meet some real friends instead of the ones you find online.

Motivation. When talking to people about their barriers to a consistent workout schedule the name one of two options, that they don’t have the time or the motivation. Finding the internal motivation to exercise day after day can be difficult. It is easy to come up with excuses why you shouldn’t exercise. While some may justify that having an adaptive situation is enough to not exercise, in reality, it is just as important for you to exercise too. In a group setting, there are outside motivators that can boost your workouts. You don’t have to write the workouts or come up with any adaptations, the coaches do that for you. If the instructor is good, then you don’t have to worry about an upbeat environment that provides extra motivation. The workouts should always be changing keeping you from getting bored, it is easier to stay motivated when you aren’t bored.

Accountability. Having someone plan on you can make it much easier to make it to a class. A friendly instructor will keep track of your attendance and may threaten extra reps if you keep missing class. When you create friends in the classes you attend, not only is there pressure from your instructor but also your classmates. It is a great way to meet up with friends and ‘hang out’. It is much easier to see your friends regularly when it is part of your regular schedule. If you both can make it a priority to exercise it is an easy way to ensure you see each other often.

LionHearts’ group classes are offered Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:00 and 6:30. We would love to have you come join our community of people who love working out and being apart of an awesome adaptive community that supports each other.
